Saturday, July 24, 2010 Market Fair and Militia Muster Hartwell Tavern Historical Area, Route 2A, Lincoln, MA Minute Man National Historical Park 9:30 AM to 5:30 PM In colonial New England, militia training days often doubled as social events. Visit Hartwell Tavern and experience an important aspect of life in a colonial town. Volunteer reenactors will stage military drill and musket firing demonstrations, an 18th century market fair, period competitions and more.
Saturday, July 31, 2010 Colonel James Barrett 300th Birthday At North Bridge and Colonel Barrett Farm, Concord, MA Minute Man National Historical Park 10:00 AM to 4:00 PM Come celebrate the 300th birthday of Colonel James Barrett at his restored home. Activities will include a reenactment of the 1775 British search of the house, period craft demonstrations, house tours, cartridge making, musket demonstrations, field plowing demonstrations, and fife and drum music performed by Middlesex County Volunteers.
Saturday, August 7, 2010 Revolution at the Doorstep - Exploring Meriam`s Corner Meriam’s Corner, Concord, MA Minute Man National Historical Park 12:00 PM to 2:00 PM There are many unanswered questions regarding the fighting at Meriam`s Corner. Join a Park Ranger for an exploration of this important action in the first battle of the American Revolution, and a tour of the Meriam House, itself a witness of history.
Battle Road Trail Walk Minute Man National Historical Park 12:30 PM Join a Park Ranger for a 3 1/2 hour guided walk along the historic Battle Road Trail. Learn about the events of April 19, 1775, landscape changes through time, and the American Revolution from the perspective of the Concord Authors. Meeting at the Minute Man Visitor Center on Route 2A at 12:30, we will shuttle to Meriam`s Corner to begin the tour. Bring plenty of water!
Saturday, August 14, 2010 Runaway Runway Hartwell Tavern Historical Area, Route 2A, Lincoln, MA Minute Man National Historical Park 1:30 PM and 2:45 PM Colonial reenactors use actual runaway advertisements from 18th century newspapers to recreate the clothing and appearance of runaway servants and slaves.
Saturday-Sunday, August 14-15, 2010 Fee Free Days at The Wayside The Wayside, 455 Lexington Road, Concord, MA Minute Man National Historical Park Visit The Wayside: Home of Authors for a complimentary guided tour of the house. Tours are available 10:00 and 11:00 a.m., 1:00, 2:00, 3:00 and 4:30 p.m. (limited to 10 people each.)
Saturday, August 21, 2010 The Long Arm of the Law Hartwell Tavern Historical Area, Route 2A, Lincoln, MA Minute Man National Historical Park 12:00 PM, 1:00 PM and 2:45 PM What kind of crimes came before the local Magistrate in the early 1770s? Come to the Hartwell Tavern and meet the Magistrate and the Constable, as well as a motley group of offenders. Will the defendants be fined, sentenced to be flogged, or perhaps exonerated?
Sunday, August 22, 2010 Abigail Adams Meets Captain William Smith At the Captain William Smith House, Lincoln, MA Minute Man National Historical Park 2:30 PM Join Park Ranger Michael Ryan as the controversial Lincoln figure Captain William Smith, commander of the Lincoln Minute Men on April 19, 1775, and the only brother of Abigail Adams, as he is visited by his sister Abigail portrayed by Park Volunteer Joyce Murray. They will discuss events of the day as well as family matters. The Smith House, built in the 1690`s, is preserved as part of Minute Man National Historical Park. Ample parking is available at the Hartwell Tavern parking area on Route 2A.
Tavern Talk Hartwell Tavern Historical Area, Route 2A, Lincoln, MA Minute Man National Historical Park Times: 1:30 PM and 2:45 PM Imagine it`s late summer of 1774 and you are a guest at Hartwell Tavern. Join Dr. Charles Russel, a man of questionable loyalties (portrayed by Park Ranger Michael Ryan), and other characters from the period for a discussion on educational funding, the Provincial Congress, and the "Solemn League and Covenant" (a total boycott of British goods). Be sure to bring your voice and brush up on your debating skills as this can get rather loud! |
